Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration

This year the Township has chosen to recognize a part of Hispanic culture that binds more than 20 Hispanic countries through rhythm- the history of drumming and percussion in Latin America.

Through performances from various cultural groups, a community drum circle, and an exciting keynote speaker, the event aims to share with the public the soul-moving, rhythmic connection that Hispanic culture ties in with celebration, mourning, medicine and spirituality.

The schedule of events is as follows:

  • 2:30pm - Performance by Viva Flamenco
  • 3:15pm - Performance by Pasion Peru 
  • 3:30pm - Performance by Otto Show and workshop by the Bucket Brigade
  • 4:00pm - Performance by Alizon, Lucero, & David Lopez
  • 4:30pm - Performance by Los Mulatos de NJ and workshop by the Bucket Brigade
  • 5:00pm - Performance by Sequnda Quimbamba
  • 5:30pm - Performance by David Cedeno and his Orchestra
Ongoing activities and food vendors:
  • El Lechon de Negron, Tropical Taste and Gusto & Sabor Colombiano Restaurant and other local Latin food vendors.
  • Arts & Crafts, Face Painting, games and an art exhibition featuring art on loan from the Newark Public Library the event features something for everyone!
