A Successful Comedy Night for Union Center SID; October 18th
Township of Union - The Union Special Improvement District hosted a night of fun and laughter at its first-ever Comedy Night. The show was on Friday, October 18th from 6pm to 9pm at Columbus Park located on Morris Ave behind Van Gogh’s Ear Café. Hosting the show, was Fig, as seen on Showtime at The Apollo BET, Def Comedy Jam, and Caroline’s on Broadway.
The lineup featured comedians Ruperto Vanderpool, as seen on The Last OG, Cookout the Movie, Comedy Central, and BET; Kenny Williams, as seen on HBO’s Bad Boys of Comedy BET and Caroline’s on Broadway; and JoJo Collins, as seen on Caroline’s on Broadway.
“It was a very successful night,” stated Collins, a comedienne from Irvington, “The crowd was great, and I appreciate everyone that came out in this weather. It may have been cold outside, but the show was hot!”
About 30 people filled Columbus Park despite the chilly weather. SID came prepared with heaters and gave out free hot cocoa and cookies from Jammed Up Bakery. Even though the event was free to attend, holding it at Columbus Park made it accessible for those already visiting many of the local businesses in the Center. In fact, SID collaborated with surrounding restaurants such as Van Gogh’s Ear Café, OT’s Lounge, and Gusto Y Sabor Colombian Restaurant to offer anyone who was attending Comedy Night a percentage discounted off their meal. This cross-promotion was called “Laughter Is On Us” and was promoted on various social media platforms.
“We saw this as a great opportunity to involve the unique restaurants that were within walking distance of the show,” stated Fatimah Raymond, Union Center SID Director. “We were able to promote their business and our event at the same time as well as encourage everyone to go out to the Center and truly enjoy their Friday night.”
