The Township of Union, along with the Human Relations Committee, is hosting a "We Stand in Solidarity" socially distance candlelight vigil on Wednesday, June 3rd starting at 7:00pm in the front steps of Town Hall.
This vigil is in honor of the memory of George Floyd.
On May 25, 2020, George Floyd, an African-American man, died in Powderhorn, a neighborhood south of downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota. While Floyd was handcuffed and lying face down on a city street during an arrest, Derek Chauvin, a white Minneapolis police officer, kept his knee on the right side of Floyd’s neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds; 2 minutes and 53 seconds of which occurred after Floyd became unresponsive, according to the criminal complaint filed against Chauvin.
