UNION PAL PROGRAM TO HOST FIRST EVENT AT DERON SCHOOL OF NEW JERSEY

The Township of Union Police Athletic/Activity League is set to host its first event on Friday, June 10th, 2022, at the Deron School of New Jersey from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This picnic will feature a petting zoo and bounce house for over 90 of the school’s special needs students.

“I am so proud to be hosting our very first event at the Deron School for children with special needs,” said Ted Merced, Executive Director of Union PAL. “We look forward to many more events focused on bringing meaningful and valuable programs to our special need families in Union.”

Besides a day of activities, which include a petting zoo, unicorn, and bounce house; members of the PAL and the Union Police Department will visit the students in Marvel super hero costumes.

“We’re excited to have the Union PAL connect the community with our police officers,” stated Committeeman and Police Commissioner Joe Florio. “The afternoon under the sun will be packed with excitement for the kiddos, plus they’ll get to meet our very own heroes (Union Police Officers) dressed up as superheroes.”

Since 1967, The Deron School has offered a state-approved private school program for students with multiple disabilities (MD), physical disabilities, intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and down syndrome. Their nurturing environment, family culture, personalized curriculum design and methods are all quite intentional—to optimize the experience and results of all student.
