THE TOWNSHIP OF UNION IS JOINING THE NATION IN DECLARING MAY AS OLDER AMERICANS MONTH AS A CELEBRATION FOR THE VALUABLE CONTRIBUTIONS OF PAST AND CURRENT OLDER PERSONS IN OUR COUNTRY, IN PARTICULAR THOSE WHO DEFENDED OUR COUNTRY.
THE THEME OF OLDER AMERICANS MONTH SPOTLIGHTS THE IMPACT THAT LONGEVITY WILL HAVE ON NEARLY EVERY ASPECT OF SOCIETY IN THE COMING YEARS, FROM HEALTH AND LONG-TERM CARE NEEDS, ECONOMIC SECURITY, HOUSING AND LIVING ARRANGEMENTS, TO RETIREMENT PLANS AND LEISURE TIME.
MAY 2015 WILL BEGIN THE COMMEMORATION OF THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE ENACTMENT OF THE OLDER AMERICANS ACT.
MAY HAS TRADITIONALLY BEEN CELEBRATED WITH TRIBUTES TO OLDER PERSONS THROUGH CEREMONIES, EVENTS, FAIRS AND OTHER ACTIVITIES.
