public-art-bench_thumb.jpg

As part of the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders countywide public art project to integrate the arts into non-traditional venues, to expand the reach of the arts to broaden and diversify public exposure, interest in, and access to the arts, we invite Union County artists to participate in the Art Outside the Box- Beautiful Bench Project. Three park benches in the Center of the Township of Union will be selected for this project. The locations are the park benches in front of Van Gogh’s Ear Café on Stuyvesant Ave, in front of UCNB on Morris Ave and in front of Killer Vegan on Stuyvesant Ave.

Artists are asked to submit renderings of what they would paint on the bench. Artists may enter up to three designs for consideration. The deadline is Friday, December 4th. To apply, click on the additional info link below.

The selection panel will include arts professionals. Artwork will be judged for artistic excellence, technical merit, the ability to complement the setting where it will be displayed, continuous continuity, and how well the artwork translates into large scale viewing. Following jury selections, artists whose artwork was selected will be notified by phone and e-mail. Due to large number of submissions, all submitting artists whose work was not selected may not be notified by Union County until some later date (TBD).

For additional information or questions, please contact the Union County Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs at (908) 558-2550 or click on the additional Info link below to visit their website.
