This is your Mayor Clifton People with a very important message about our property taxes. This Monday, June 23rd, the Kean University Board of Trustees will be meeting to vote on whether Kean should move forward in purchasing 50 acres of land that previously housed Merck, on Morris Ave. If the Board votes to move forward with this sale we will bring this matter to court, but a successful verdict in their favor will mean you and I will have to make up the difference in the property taxes lost. A reminder, Kean University and Ursino Restaurant pay no property taxes to our Township, and have an ever growing demand for services.
Along with the Township Committee, I intend to keep working with all concerned citizens to continue to fight this potentially disastrous course of action, but we need your help. please make your voice heard and demand that the Kean University Board of Trustees vote "no" this Monday at 4:00pm in the Kean Hall Conference Center, Room 127.
If you can't make that meeting, please call Board of Trustees Executive Director Audrey Kelly at (908) 737-7000 or email her at aukelly@kean.edu and let her know the Board has a responsibility to our community to vote "no"!
