On Tuesday, May 24th, the Mayor and Committee of the Township of Union recognized the Union High School (UHS) Twirlers on an outstanding season. Union High School is one of the only schools in Union County, and one of the very few in the state, that still acknowledge baton twirling. Coach Nicole Placca has coached the baton twirlers for the past five years during which they have excelled in local, state, and regional competitions as a team and as soloists. This season in particular, as a team, they have earned top awards from the NJ Twirling association (NJTA) and won 1st place at the NJTA State Championships on April 24th. The team had also won Over 40 solo/duet awards in a variety of categories including Strut, 2-Baton, 3-Baton, Show Twirl, Twirl & Dance, and One Baton Solo.
