The Township of Union is excited to be preparing for another Mayor’s Weekend taking place Friday, September, 23rd through Sunday, September 25th.

“We are so excited to be able to host an entire weekend on fun-filled activities for our residents and their families,” said Mayor Manuel Figueiredo. “There is definitely something for everyone this year.”

The weekend kicks off on Friday, September 23rd with a Movie Under the Stars hosted by the Union Department of Recreation. This year’s movie is “The Jungle Book (2016).” The event begins at 6:45 p.m. with pre-movie face painting and live animal presentations from the Turtle Back Zoo.

Following the movie, on Saturday, September 24th at 12:00 p.m., the Union Special Improvement District will host their Welcome Fall Festival, sponsored by ConnectOne Bank. The event takes place between Morris and Vauxhall Rd. and will feature art and craft vendors, food vendors, kids rides and activities, and music by The Nerds.

Then at 7:00 p.m. residents are invited to Union High School to enjoy Union’s Got Talent, where some of Union’s best singers and dancers will compete for a $1000 grand prize. This event is hosted by UHS PAC and the Douglas Michael Kruger Scholarship Fund, and is sponsored by Investor’s Bank. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased in advance at UHSPAC.com.

Closing this weekend of fun is the YMCA Kid’s Run Challenge & 5K Run/Walk hosted by the Union Chamber of Commerce and the Township of Union Board of Education, sponsored by the YMCA and Deep Foods. Checkin begins at 7:45 a.m. and the 5K run starts at 9:00 a.m., a separate kids run will begin at 9:30 a.m. Registration for this event is available online through runsignup.com by searching Mayor's Day 5K Run/Walk. Proceeds from this event will be donated to fund ALS research and awareness.

The Movie Under the Stars, Welcome Fall Festival and YMCA Kid’s Run Challenge & 5K Run/Walk are free of charge to attend.

This is the Township of Union’s 4th Mayor’s Weekend. Mayor’s Weekend was created as a way to bring the community together to usher in the new school year and the fall season with fun positivity and community.
