The Township of Union is proud to be hosting its 2nd Annual Hispanic Heritage Celebration, themed The Rhythm and the Beat to take place on Saturday, September 30th, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. in the parking lot in front of Town Hall.
This year the Township has chosen to recognize a part of Hispanic culture that binds more than 20 Hispanic countries through rhythm- the history of drumming and percussion in Latina America.
Through performances from various cultural groups, a community drum circle, and an exciting keynote speaker, the event aims to share with the public the soul-moving, rhythmic connection that Hispanic culture ties in with celebration, mourning, medicine and spirituality.
Performers and guests include:
• David Cedeno and his Orchestra
• Keynote speaker Juan Cartagena and Segunda Quimbamba
• Pasion Peru
• Otto Show
• Afro Zumba
• Los Mulatos de NJ
• Award winning Marinera dancers Alizon, Lucero and David Lopez
• Bucket Brigade Drum & Rhythm Funshop
In addition, the celebration will feature food from El Lechon de Negron, Gusto y Sabor Colombiano, and Tropical Taste Cuisine. Along with arts and crafts, face painting, games and an art exhibition featuring art on loan from the Newark Public Library the event features something for everyone.
This year’s event is being sponsored by the Township of Union, the County of Union and the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders, BCB Bank-Union, ASeabra Foods, and Union Center SID; featuring community partner, Hispanic Organization for People’s Empowerment (H.O.P.E. Inc.).
