The Township of Union was recently ranked as the 41st Safest City in America by Safehome, placing them in the top 25th percentile for safest places to live in the U.S.
“Times change and people change, but our commitment to the safety of our residents has never wavered,” said Suzette Cavadas, Mayor. “This is a wonderful recognition and we will continue to do everything in our power to make sure that our Township remains a safe place to live, work and play.”
Safehome, a professional review organization, analyzed data from the FBI to statistically find out which cities are the safest in the nation. The FBI data was compiled from information provided by 13,366 law enforcement agencies.
They also used the Chapman University Survey of American Fears to highlight the crime rates of what Americans fear most, between violent crime and property crime rates.
“Our ranking on this list says a lot about our town,” said Joseph Florio, Deputy Mayor, and a member of the Township Committee for more than 20 years. “Not only does it indicate that we have top-notch law enforcement, but it also indicates that the close knit fabric of our community plays a role in preventing and deterring crime.”
Safehome’s results show hundreds of cities that had very low rates of crime, New Jersey having the most, with 18 cities in cited on the list. California was next with 17 cities, followed by Illinois with 11 cities, most of which were located in the suburbs of Chicago.
