Union Center welcomed over 35 vintage and classic vehicles during their Welcome Fall Festival and Classic Car Show on Saturday September 29th. Spectators had the opportunity to view and admire the parade of beautiful cars on Stuyvesant Ave from 12:00pm -6:00pm.
“This past Saturday was the perfect day for the Center’s annual Welcome Fall Festival and Classic Car Show. I was thrilled to see many of our residents and some new faces as well enjoy our food court area featuring over seven of our Center restaurants such as Van Gogh’s Ear Café, Conca D’Oro Bakery, Garden City Restaurant and others.” Stated Mayor Suzette Cavadas. “I know it was fun filled day for all of our residents and many will be looking forward to the festival again next year.”
This year’s festival included an abundant amount of exciting activities. One of our main attraction at the festival was the Classic Car Show. Over 35 vintage and classic cars were parked on Stuyvesant Avenue for all to see. There was also a classic car show contest where three owners had the opportunity to win cash prizes in these categories; the People’s Choice, Mayor’s Choice and the Vintage Original Choice. The winners of this year’s contest were Tim Fox (People’s Choice), Debora Gethins (Mayor’s Choice), and Patrick Genthins (Vintage Original Choice)
One of the festival’s big hits was the “Battle of the Bowls Chili Taste Off.” This was a competition between Union Fire Department and four other local restaurants and merchants in town. The Union Fire Department took home first place in the taste off, with our very own Joe Leo, owner of Here’s the Story Books, coming in second place. All proceeds from this competition will be going towards the Township of Union Food Pantry.
The festival had fun for the whole family, with live entertainment and activities for children and young adults, from bouncy houses, go cars to a pizza party with cotton candy, popcorn, lemonade and other free activities. An annual favorite the Ice Cream Eating Contest, Magic Fountain Union Creamery, had adults and children alike consume 5 ounces of their vanilla ice cream topped of with whipped cream without using their hands. For the adult’s division the winner of the contest was Alana Limongi and for the children’s division, the winner was Emily Tarabillo. It was the sweetest contest ever.
