[ARCHIVED] Township of Union to hold 3rd Annual Portuguese Flag Raising on May 29

Celebrate Portugal as the Mayor and Township Committee host the 3rd annual Portuguese Flag Raising on Wednesday, May 29, 2019.  The ceremony will take place at Town Hall, located at 1976 Morris Ave. Union, NJ, and will begin at 7:00 P.M.

“The Township Committee and I look forward to celebrate and experience the rich culture of Portugal and its people. We take this day to bring together our residents and share a moment of honor and pride as we watch the Portuguese flag rise and wave to all of Union,” said Mayor Michele Delisfort.

The Portuguese American Civic Association will also be hosting a Portugal Day celebration with activities for the whole family on the weekend of May 31st- June 2nd, at PACA, located at 1034 Jeanette Ave, Union.

The flag-raising will include ethnic dance, and the singing of both “The Star Spangled Banner” as well as “A Portuguesa,” the national anthem of Portugal.

“It’s wonderful to live in a township that celebrates different countries and cultures throughout the year,” stated Committeeman Manuel Figueiredo. “I look forward to not just celebrating my Portuguese heritage but others such as our Nigerian Flag Raising later this year.”

The Nigerian Flag Raising ceremony will be held on Sunday, September 29th at 2pm.
